The Critical Minerals Institute (CMI) Appoints Dr. Alex Moyes to Board of Directors
Toronto, Ontario – November 4, 2025 – The Critical Minerals Institute (CMI), a global organization committed to addressing the challenges and opportunities within the critical minerals sector, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Alex Moyes to its Board of Directors. This addition reinforces CMI’s standing as The Brain Trust of the Critical Minerals Economy, enhancing its ability to support businesses, governments and stakeholders navigating the strategic landscape of critical minerals.

Dr. Moyes brings close to 20 years of experience spanning mining engineering, geology, techno-economic modelling, and critical minerals supply chain development. Most recently he joined USA Rare Earth, Inc. (Nasdaq: USAR) as Vice President of Mining, where he will lead the company’s upstream initiatives, including resource characterization, mining operations and processing for its heavy-rare-earth, gallium and hafnium deposit at Round Top Mountain in Texas. Previously, Dr. Moyes held roles such as Director of Critical Minerals & Planning at Ramaco Resources, Inc. (Nasdaq: METC), VP of Economics at Freyr Battery, both Director of Geoscience and Engineering and Director of Innovation at Dominion Energy (NYSE: D) and has a strong academic background with a PhD in Mining & Minerals Engineering, an MBA, and advanced geology degrees from the University of Utah.
“I’m excited to join CMI at a time when the global push for secure, strategically-aligned critical mineral supply chains is accelerating,” said Dr. Moyes. “I look forward to contributing to CMI’s efforts to link industry, capital markets and governments in actionable insight and pragmatic strategy.”
In his board capacity at CMI, Dr. Moyes will play a pivotal role advising on board-level research initiatives, guiding the design of CMI’s Masterclasses, contributing to the weekly Critical Minerals Report (CMR), and lending his expertise to support members engaging in the mining-to-metals value chain. His industry experience will help sharpen CMI’s offering as companies and governments work to strengthen domestic and international critical minerals supply resilience.
“Dr. Moyes’ unique combination of technical mining-engineering acumen, geoscience insight, and strategic supply-chain experience makes him a major asset to our Board,” said Tracy Hughes, CEO of CMI. “His perspective will help deepen our value proposition for our network of businesses, governments and investors — particularly as the world pivots toward critical minerals independence and sustainable supply-chains.”
